What sets you aside from all the other wedding photographers?

  • My experience as a wedding photographer. Having shot over 500 weddings of all shapes and sizes over the past 20 years, has given me a sixth sense, as well as a calm ability to negotiate every aspect of what can sometimes be a fast paced, chaotic world.
  • My style of photography is based on the use of light, composition and narrative, resulting in subtle, gimmick free and timeless photographs.
  • I also run a successful commercial photography business, giving me a technical edge, as well as an alternative creative perspective to keep things fresh and interesting.

What style of wedding photography do you offer?

  • From the minute I arrive, until it’s time for me to leave, my eyes are open to photograph the spontaneous moments of your wedding. This is often referred to as ‘reportage photography’, ‘documentary photography’, or ‘behind the scenes photography’. These shots are often some of the best images in a collection and are essential to telling the story of the day.
  • it’s important to include an element of direction at certain points of the day, to ensure I capture some portraits of you both together. I often recommend taking the two of you aside (for 20 minutes or so) for a loosely directed shoot in a few key locations. To keep things natural, the direction is loose and relaxed, often capturing shots as you stroll between locations. The results are often cinematic in look and feel.
  • I also offer family portraits (when required). These can be as formal, or informal as you like and they usually take place either just after the ceremony, or at the reception venue before the meal. I have a lot of experience at swiftly setting these shots up and am happy to do as many groups as you like, but it’s worth noting that there’s a certain amount of effort and organisation for everyone involved, which is why I recommend something between 2-10 different groups to leave time for other things (including enjoying yourselves!)
  • As a side note, I always have plenty of ideas for photographs throughout the day and will make suggestions as I see opportunities (which you can take or leave at your will!) Equally, I also encourage you to ask at any point in the day if there’s a photo you’d like me to take in a particular place, or with a specific person etc.

I hate having my photograph taken, how is this going to work?

  • I would say that the 75% of people that hire me express this before the day, but it’s never a problem. Being photographed on your wedding day is a very different experience to just having you picture taken generally. There will be a thousand distractions to take your mind off of being photographed and my years of experience in photographing people has given me a natural awareness. With a calm, relaxed approach, I have the ability to quietly observe and navigate through the nerves and emotions of the people around me, to build an unspoken trust, quietly photograph events as they unfold (taking a step back when required), whilst stealthily building a stunning collection of images of the day.
  • I so often receive feedback from clients after the wedding, saying that they were amazed at how relaxed they felt with the camera being around and didn’t even notice that they were being photographed most of the time.

We’re getting married in winter, there will be poor light and what if it rains?

  • Have no fear! You don’t photograph hundreds of weddings in London without learning to deal with low light and bad weather. This is another one of my specialities and I’ve even written articles on the subject: Winter Wedding Photography
  • There are ways to turn rain and gloom into visual positives. With low light comes rich shadows and drama and with rain comes an energy, a gloss to the streets and umbrellas!
